NEXT STEP HOME ORGANIZING BEGAN AS A HOBBY DURING A PANDEMIC THAT GREW INTO A THRIVING BUSINESS
While the entire world was on a break from life as we know it during the pandemic, Bethany also had a break from her job as a teacher. She knew if she sat still and didn’t stay busy, she would go crazy. As she sat down pondering future career plans, “professional organizer” jokingly made its way onto the list.
With a mix of curiosity and passion, Bethany embarked on a journey she wasn’t entirely sure was even possible. Her love for organizing and helping others led her to do some quick research, take a few snapshots of her own neatly arranged home, and put together her first social media pages. Overnight, Next Step Home Organizing was born.

HI FRIEND, I’M BETHANY
Lead Organizer + Founder of NSHO
I traded dodgeballs and pickleball paddles for drawer organizers and a label maker, and I’m SO glad I did.
Before I began NSHO, I spent years teaching middle schoolers and proudly served in the military, which took me around the world and across the United States for over a decade. This journey taught me invaluable lessons in flexibility and resilience, fostering deep connections wherever I went. These experiences laid a solid foundation for who I am today and my passion for helping others.
I’m a seasoned professional organizer (4 years and going strong) obsessed with closets, pantries, and kids' spaces. Organizing is my gift. My gift lies in my ability to tackle organizational obstacles with creative solutions, a sharp eye for detail, and a knack for bringing clarity to clutter. With a genuine desire to help others, I turn challenges into opportunities for lasting change.

Makayla Ortiz
Makayla has been a professional organizer for a year, but her passion for organizing extends far beyond that. Her favorite space to organize is the junk drawer–she loves the challenge of finding a home for every item and showing people just how un-junky that drawer can be.
As a military spouse, Makayla learned how crucial organizing was to managing the chaos of military life. Discovering Next Step Home Organizing opened her eyes to the possibility of turning her passion into a fulfilling career after struggling to find satisfaction in other career paths. Now, she is a fully dedicated organizer deeply committed to helping others transform their spaces and improve their lives.
Outside of organizing, Makalya spends time with her husband and son. She loves to cook, stay active, and explore new foods when possible. The holidays are her favorite time of the year when she gets to return home to California to visit with family. Makayla’s travel bucket list includes Disney World!
Erin Jewah
Erin began organizing alongside Bethany 4 years ago when she started NSHO. Closets are one of her favorite spaces because you can almost immediately see the improvement. She finds organizing closets to be extremely rewarding because it is a fun, functional space clients use and enjoy daily.
Erin has always loved organizing, but she didn’t join the industry until 2020. As a junior in high school, she was brainstorming future careers and came across professional organizers and was hooked. Clearly, that was one of the best decisions she made, and she’s going strong on this incredible path!
Outside of organizing, Erin is an active person and loves being outdoors. She also enjoys journaling and spends some of her spare time as a student pilot! Her bucket list has some fun activities she can’t wait to experience, such as the canyon swing in New Zealand or attending a lantern festival.
